Dawn to dusk bandh cripples Belpahar station

Jharsuguda: Modernisation of Belpahar railway station and stoppage of three trains being the principal ones out of six top proposals, a dawn to dusk bandh is being observed at Belpahar in Jharsuguda district Friday.

The bandh call has been given by Belpahar Citizen Forum. Owing to the bandh, normal life has been thrown out of gear, with schools closed, shutters down and vehicles off the road, the place is promoting an early weekend feel.

The local residents, the Collector and some officials of railway department had a meeting Thursday. The meeting however failed to deliver any satisfactory minutes owing to the demands. Thus the forum announced the 12-hour bandh call.

The forum alleged that the railway department is earning revenue in crores through Belpahar railway station. However not even a single step has been taken towards its improvement.

This apart, the station lacks minimal facilities for passengers’ safety, the forum pointed out.
