Konark: Life has been thrown out of gear in Puri district from Friday morning due to a 12-hour bandh call given by the woman’s wing of the BJP in protest against gang rape of a woman from West Bengal.
The wing has demanded immediate arrest of the gang rape accused.
Notably, the victim was first lured into Odisha promising her a good job a year ago and was later raped by more than 10 men. This month she was kept in captive for 10 days by a youth and was gang raped. Police and locals rescued her from a closed room at a market complex October 17.
Owing to the bandh, shops have downed their shutters and traffic on Konark-Puri, Konark-Bhubaneswar and Konark-Kakatpur roads is off the ply, causing inconvenience to regular commuters. Particularly, the tourists are seen in distress over the stoppage.
