Subarnapur: A 12-hour bandh called by locals demanding filling up of vacant doctor posts at different hospitals in the region has crippled normal life in Binika town Tuesday.
Vehicular traffic on the roads came to a grinding halt, while educational institutions and business establishments remained closed.
“Binika CHC, hospitals at Bankighrdi, Sankara and Mahapali have no doctors for a long period now,” protestors alleged.
“The protest will be intensified if no steps are taken by August 24 to fulfill our demands,” they said.
Notably, the Binika Block Journalists’ Association has been on dharana at the block headquarters since August 6, raising similar demands.
Besides, BJP and Congress had observed 12-hour bandh at Binika August 11 and August 13 respectively for the same cause.
Locals have alleged that the state government is not taking steps towards filling vacant posts despite bandh calls by different political parties and local organisations.
