Jeypore: Tension ran high at Chikima Upper Primary School under Ekamba panchayat of this block in Koraput district after parents created a ruckus after a dead lizard was found in the mid-day meal cooked for students, Saturday. All 129 students were forced to go hungry following the incident.
According to a source, the body of the lizard was found in the rice moments before the students were served their meals. The issue was quickly brought to the notice of a teacher who stopped distribution of food.
The students returned home without having food. Infuriated parents, meanwhile, gathered at the school after learning the incident and demanded action against school authorities.
Later, cluster resource centre coordinator (CRCC) Jnanendra Parida reached the spot and assuaged the angry parents. He has submitted his report to the block education officer (BEO) on the issue.
The exasperated parents, however, were opposed to distribution of food cooked in a kitchen located far from school. They have warned of blocking entry of the mid-day meals vehicle inside their village from Monday onwards.
