Death before HSC exam sparks row

Student death

Bhubaneswar/Bolangir: In a tragic incident, a Class X student was found hanging in the washroom of his hostel in Bolangir district, just a few hours before the commencement of the High School Certificate (HSC) Examination Tuesday, even as his family members suspected foul play in the incident.

The incident took place at Viswatma S Vidyamandir in Khujenpali area of the district. The deceased was identified as Binayak Pradhan, 15, son of Ratra Pradhan from Taliudar village under Loisingha police limits. He was to appear for the examination at Bhagaban Vidya Mandir in Khujenpali. However, hostel inmates found him hanging inside the washroom Tuesday morning. School authorities rushed him to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead, police said. Alleging that Binayak was murdered, his father demanded an impartial probe. The death of the boy sparked tension in the hospital as his family members and villagers had a heated exchange with the school staff. “We are unable to understand the cause of his death,” hostel warden Sambit Kumar said. “We have launched a probe following a suspected murder complaint by the deceased’s family,” said Sadar IIC Rajkumar Biswal.
