Debashis slips to joint second spot

Kiran Manisha Mohanty defeated M Andrew Southey of Russia at New Delhi, Friday

Bhubaneswar: GM Debashis Das slipped to the joint second spot after the completion of the fourth round of the Commonwealth Chess Championships (CCC) at New Delhi, Friday.

Debashis is sharing the joint second spot along with 11 others with 3.5 points each. IM S Nitin of Railways is taking the sole lead with four points in his kitty.

In the fourth round Nitin stunned higher rated GM G Vishnu Prasanna of Tamil Nadu. However Debashis lost to higher ranked GM RR Laxman of Tamil Nadu.

Sambit Panda of the state is lagging in the joint third spot along with 23 others with three points apiece. Sambit scripted a convincing victory over R Karan Trivedi of Gujarat.

Vaibhav Mishra and WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty are sharing the joint fourth spot with 2.5 points each. Vaibhav played out a stalemate with Ansh M Shah of Gujarat. However Kiran Manisha Mohanty got her form back as she prevailed over M Andrew Southey of Russia.

Among other Odisha players Rajesh Nayak lost to CM Aron Klevansky of Russia and Ansuman Samal was defeated by GM Abhijit Kunte of PSPB.

Kahitosh Dey forced Virendra Singh Negi of Air India to sign peace with him and Sushobhit Das suffered a humiliating loss to Abhay Banewar of Madhya Pradesh.
