Bhubaneswar: The School and Mass Education (S&ME) department is keen to resume physical classes for Class IX and XI students in Odisha. The process for resumption has been initiated and a final call in this regard will be taken after coming first week of February.

This was informed by the S&ME Minister Samir Ranjan Dash Saturday afternoon. The department has been holding discussions and consultations with different stakeholders on the date of reopening of Class IX and XI for this academic session, the minister said.
“The S&ME department is holding discussion and consultation to take a decision on resumption physical classes for students of Class IX and XI. The special relief commissioner (SRC) in its notification Saturday has stated that the government can take appropriate decision on the reopening of classes for students from Class I to VIII. However, we will not think about the opening of primary classes now. As Class X and XII have already opened from January 8 this year, we are discussing on reopening of Class IX and XI at this stage,” Dash clarified.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will take a final call. The decision in this regard will be taken keeping in mind the safety of students and COVID-19 protocols of the government, Dash said.
Notably, the SRC has issued Unlock-9.0 guidelines for the month of February. The SRC said that S&ME department can take a decision on resumption of classes for Class IX and XI students.
