Telkoi: There is no let-up in elephant deaths across the state as the decomposed carcass of an elephant calf was recovered from Kalapata reserve forest under Telkoi range in Keonjhar forest division, Thursday.
The matter came to the fore after villagers spotted the rotting carcass near Odhana village under Padanga panchayat inside the reserve forest and informed the forest officials.
On being informed, forest officials led by Keonjhar DFO HD Hanumant and Telkoi ranger Sanjiv Mohan Ray rushed to the spot and recovered the carcass. The carcass was buried at the spot after veterinarians conducted a post-mortem.
Telkoi ranger Ray said that a 35-member elephant herd is moving in the area for the last one month. It is suspected that the calf aged within one year might have died after being attacked by a tusker in the herd.
