Deed writers boycott work protesting online registration

Berhampur: Work at the sub-registrar’s office here was disrupted after the deed writers went on a strike Monday protesting introduction of online registration of land, cashless system, and online sale and purchase of land by the state government.

The deed writers under the aegis of Odisha Dalil Lekhaka Sangha staged a demonstration outside the office of the sub-registrar after abstaining from work.

The agitation severely affected work at the sub-registrar’s office as people who had come to the office for sale and purchase of their land, marriage, trust registration and preparing wills had to return in vain without accomplishing their work.

The deed writers have demanded abolition of the new online system. Deed writers Sai Prasad Patra, Arun Kumar Panda, Prasant Das, Karunakar Roul, Maheshwar Jena, Bhagaban Panigrahi Balakrushna Pattnaik and Chandra Sekhar Panigrahi participated in the agitation. The reports said similar agitations were organised by the deed writers in various parts of the state.
