Defunct BSNL network angers Telkoi residents

Telkoi: The country’s only state-owned telecommunications company BSNL’s network, including its broadband services, has been lying disrupted at the block headquarters in Keonjhar district for over two months now. This is giving the residents here sleepless nights.

The BSNL office here has been functioning from a rented house since the last 20 years. However, the dilapidated structure can crumble any moment. The main air- conditioned room which also has the main servers is dysfunctional.

As the internet services have snapped, it is affecting our daily lives. Block offices are not being able to function properly while students are having a harrowing time downloading their requirements, alleged local residents.

Banks have stopped functioning, while work at the police station and forest range office has come to a halt. Once the summer vacation is over, students will have problems to get their various forms and certificates online, they added.

There is only one employee present in the office which amply demonstrates BSNL’s apathy in solving the problem.

When contacted, the SDO of BSNL, B Sahu did not have any solution to offer. He said that the problem will persist until the company has its own building with proper facilities. He also informed that due to road expansion projects, cables have snapped leading to the disruption of internet services.
