Bolangir: Intensifying their demands for district status to Kantabanji, the Zilla Sangharsh Samiti, a regional outfit fighting for the rights of the people, has now decided to take the issue to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The president of the outfit, Seshdev Putel said Tuesday, “Despite substantial revenue generation from Kantabanji, the Bolangir district administration doesn’t carry out proper development work in the area. People here are ignored in every aspect. We have decided to approach the CM as we have been deprived of benefits of government schemes for ages.”
A member of Kantabanji Zilla Sangharsh Samiti is of the opinion that getting district status will help development. “We are hoping that once we are granted district status, there will be some development and the standard of living will improve.”
It must be mentioned here that a 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh was called by the Zilla Sangha Samiti in Turekela town demanding district status to Kantabanji December 26, 2018. But it did not have any effect on the state government. “We have called bandh several times. But, the officials remain unaffected. So, we have decided to take the matter to the CM,” the members said.
