Demands not met, 35 families in Talcher to boycott elections

Talcher: The residents of Tentulei Nuasahi of Tentulei Panchayat under Talcher block in Angul district have declared that they will be boycotting the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha. There are around 35 families living in the village. Posters announcing their decision to boycott the polls have appeared at the entrance of the village.

The villagers said they have taken this decision because the administration has been indifferent to their problems. However, none of them have any land. According to state government rules, each of the families is expected to get four decimals of land.

Though they have raised the issue several times with the district, sub divisional and tehsil administration officials, they are yet to get a positive feedback.

All that they have got till date is the visit of a revenue inspector a few days back. “Rule is there, schemes are there. Yet our demands are not being met,” stated the villagers.

The villagers recently staged a demonstration at the Sub- Collector’s office and presented him with a memorandum voicing their grievances.
