Dengue acquires alarming proportions in Ganjam district

Rourkela: Dengue fever has spread its wings in the district, while Rourkela remains the worst affected at present.

So far, 64 persons have been detected with the vector-borne disease and, of them, 57 are from Rourkela.

Meanwhile, the sudden surge of the fever has caused panic among people and sent alarm bells ringing in the Health department.

Sector-14 in Rourkela Steel Township has been declared a dengue hotspot after most of the cases were found from the locality. The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has undertaken a massive cleanliness drive there. It is learnt that the government and RSP authorities have stored adequate quantity of medicine and testing kits to meet the situation.

At present, seven dengue affected persons have been admitted to RGH. Dr Bhakta Mohan Swain ADPHO, RGH, said, “The maximum numbers of cases have been identified in Rourkela urban area. Till date, we have found 64 cases. Majority of them are in the Sectors, Railway Colony and RMC areas.” He further added, “Beds for patients are ready at RGH, Bonai, and also in Sundargarh. We are providing symptomatic treatment to the patients who are reporting to us. We are monitoring every development and keeping a close eye on the situation. We also have dengue volunteers who are helping us.”
