While some are hits with young masses, some go out of trend pretty soon. However, blue or coloured jeans haven’t lost its shine and influence on younger generations. Orissa Post interacted with jeans lovers, garment shop owners to delve deeper into the subject.
Actor James Dean is the first star who made denim popular through his movie Rebel without a cause which caught the fancy of American youths. Later it was wide spread over all over the world as denim material became obvious trademark of being a celebrity. Originally the word ‘denim’ was invented from Nimes, a French town, by the famous Andre family.
The first pair of denim pants was manufactured in Italy’s Geona. Denim is basically made for cowboys who needed stretchable trousers that needs less washing and still looks good. Levis Stratus the famous brand of jeans was first made in 1873, which later became a huge hit in the 1900’s.
There are a variety of jeans which are highly popular with youngsters. Floral, High waist, Boyfriend, Skinny, ripped and coloured are some of the varieties that are preferred by the younger generation. Coloured formal jeans can be donned with any kind of top anytime. The best thing about it is the variety of colours that it comes in. It can be donned for office hours as well due to their elegance and simplicity.
Boyfriend jean is a variant which is appropriate for any and every woman. Such jeans are considered to be very stylish. Donning floral jeans gives an individual a feminine look. It is still one of the most sought after apparel that can be donned at any function.
Most women worry to conceal the enlarged tummy area while wearing a jean. High waisted jeans were introduced in the eighties by American celebrities like Madonna to solve this issue. It is quiet popular amidst girls even these days. Ripped jeans seem to be defining the trend these days. These types of jean are ripped at the thigh, ankle and leg area and often matched with a rugged shirt or t-shirt.
This variant was introduced in the early nineties to benefit skinny girls who wanted to flaunt their long legs in denim wears. However, today the story has changed and even plus size women are trying to fit into these trendy jeans.
Nikita Nayak, a fashion designer in the city, said, “Denims are the coolest pair of jeans which every girl should posses. However, in today’s scenario, customised jeans are much in demand. I have recently customised 5 pair of jeans for a client who wanted floral patchwork with blings.
Ruhi Chandni, a student, said, “Jean wear constitute my second skin. That’s why I often buy 3-4 pairs of denims whenever I shop. In fact, I along with my friends have opened a Denim group called ‘Girls in Blue’ where each member should flaunt at least 30 variants of jeans in a year.”
Prakash Agarwal, a garment shop owner, said, “I often stock my closet with more denim wears than any other apparel as it is my preferred wear any day.”
