Deogarh: A youth named Sandip Pradhan (18) of Utunia village under Kundheigola police limits in Deogarh district lost the toe finger of his right leg after a pharmacist wrongly put petrol on his wound acting on a local doctor’s advice, a source said.
Sandip, the son of Tripurari Pradhan, had to face this precarious situation due to the doctor’s ill-advice and hence Sandip’s family resorted to file a complaint with Kundheigola police Wednesday.

Acting on the FIR lodged by family members, local police has filed a case. However, after allegations of pressure being put on them by the accused medico who offered Rs 1,00,000 for them to withdraw the case, the family brought the matter to the knowledge of Superintendent of Police Deogarh.
According to reports, Sandip had visited a doctor named Chittaranjan Sahoo of Palasama sub-divisional headquarters hospital (SHH) for treatment of a wound on the thumb finger of his right leg June 17.
On the advice of doctor Sahoo, a pharmacist there named Padmanav Sahoo poured petrol on Sandip’s wound. Gradually, his wound aggravated instead of being cured. He was taken to Chhendipada and Angul hospitals for further treatment but in vain.
Ultimately, Sandip was brought to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, where doctors amputated the body part, as his the finger had become infected severely, the victim’s family informed.
On being contacted, Palasama SHH doctor Sahoo said, “Treatment was carried out as permitted by medical science. Allegation made on petrol treatment is fictitious and ill-motivated”.
Reacting to this, Deogarh chief district medical officer (CDMO) Manoj Kumar Upadhyaya said, “We will surely investigate on the alleged incident and take necessary steps, if we get any complaint”.
Giving her views on the accused pressurising the victim to withdraw complaints against by offering Rs 1,00,000, Kundheigola police station in-charge Nirupama Jena said, “Allegations are baseless”.
