Departments yet to move to Kharavela Bhawan

Bhubaneswar: Although Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy had issued instructions to officials concerned to ensure shifting of 11 administrative departments to newly inaugurated Kharavela Bhawan by August 31, not a single department has been shifted till Saturday due to non-completion of works, sources said.

Only Industries and Labour departments have just started moving files in the afternoon. Work on furnishing the offices is still going on, the sources said.

For example, the Transport and Commerce Department, which was allotted the west wing of the 5th floor in the office complex has not shifted due to lack of proper infrastructure for the officers.

In a letter, Transport Additional Secretary Premananda Khuntia asked the General Administration Department (GAD) to direct the officials concerned to ensure construction of individual cubicles for use of office by five under secretaries, two deputy secretaries and two OSDs as they are not available in the present structure.

“Though there is provision of mini conference hall, PS room and waiting lobby in the plan outlay for the secretary of the department, same has not yet been put into place. Same may be installed immediately next to the secretary room,” Khuntia said.

He also requested for setting up of four separate cabins for PS/PA of senior officers along with Road Safety Cell. There is no space available for record room and store room.

“The work is going on and will take a little more time to complete,” said an official from the Works Department.

Earlier, the Chief Secretary had asked the Works Department officials to provide all necessary infrastructures in the Bhawan so that 11 departments can shift there by August end.

On Independence Day, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had inaugurated the new 11-storeyed building which was constructed at a cost of Rs 128 crore.
