Bargaon: A teacher who has been teaching for 20 years fails to spell as simple a word, ‘father’. He does not even know simple multiplication.
This shameful incident though took place July 31 has come to fore recently. Block Education Officer (BEO) Sarangadhara Bariha visited Badulpani Nodal UP School in Sundargarh district bordering Jharkhand.
During his visit to the school, Bariha entered a classroom and asked Yunas Ekka, who was taking the class, to write ‘father’ on the blackboard. Holding a piece of chalk, Ekka stood for 10 minutes near the blackboard but still could not write the word.
Later, Bariha asked him to solve 47 X 22. Here also he failed.
The BEO warned him that his increment would be stopped if he did not improve his level of knowledge.
Besides, the BEO has ordered hold salaries of six male and female teachers and slapped showcause notices on three teachers for their negligence, their low level of imparting education to children and various other lacunae.
Similarly, district project coordinator (DPC) had visited few schools six months ago. Taking serious note of irregularities found during the visit, he had ordered for holding up of salaries of two teachers of Kutumamunda project primary school, one of Kharikamunda primary school, one of Gudagudapada primary school and two teachers of Sianmal primary school.
When contacted, Bariha confirmed the incident. He said he would take stringent steps to increase the level of education.
