Devotees take to streets over Ratna Bhandar row

Jagatsinghpur: At a time when the missing key of Ratna Bhandar of the Srimandir has sparked an outrage in the state, Jagannath devotees here gave a call to give back the Trinity to the district if no action is taken against the person(s) involved in the key theft, Monday.

The devotees took out a rally from the Town Hall to the Superintendent of Police’s office where they submitted a memorandum to SP Prakash R.

The devotees, led by Pradipta Mitra, claimed that the culture and tradition of the state is intrinsically linked to Jagannath and without Him the people cannot think of their existence. This apart, the district has a special relationship with the Lord as one of His great devotees Bishar Mohanty installed and worshipped the idols of the Trinity at Gadakujang during the period of ‘Patali’.

Moreover, the wood used for making the three idols was identified in this district. However, the theft of the key has deeply hurt the sentiments of the devotees. The state government should take immediate steps to arrest the culprits, the devotees said.
