Devotees to enter Srimandir in queue

Puri: Devotees intending to offer prayers and darshan of the deities in Srimandir will have to go in queue from the entrance gates of the temple from Tuesday morning.

The temple administration would enforce the queue system for devotees in the temple, said SC Mahapatra one of the members of three member panel constituted by the state government.

In adherence to Supreme Court interim judgment to make provision for hassle-free darshan of the deities by the devotees in the temple, a three-member panel comprising Mahimohan Tripathy, member of the temple managing body, Soumendra Priyadarshi, the Inspector General of Police and S C Mahapatra the former chief administrator of the temple was constituted by the state government.

The committee was directed to explore possibility of introducing the one way queue system in the temple.

Prior to this counting of daily attendance of devotees in the temple from opening of temple gates in the early morning till closure of the gates in the night was conducted by the police personnel deployed at all the four gates of the temple.

Earlier, Sunday, the panel members paid a field visit in and around the temple before announcing the new system.

As per the new arrangements the devotees would enter the 12th century shrine in a queue and also return in a queue.

The new system would be conducted on experimental basis and would continue if it yields good results satisfying the pilgrims.

This was being done before the scheduled visit of the apex court appointed amicus curiae to the temple August 30.
