Bhubaneswar: Director General of Police (DGP) B K Sharma Wednesday asked the IG, DIG and SPs to visit marine police stations at least once in every month to ensure their proper functioning.
Reviewing the coastal security in the state with Superintendents of Police (SPs) of seven coastal districts at the police headquarters in Cuttack, Sharma said the SPs shall inspect marine police stations on a regular basis and submit the inspection notes to State Police Headquarters.
The SPs, he said, should ask the IICs of marine police stations to make extensive sea patrolling in their jurisdiction and ensure that the technical staff in the station should be utilised properly and effectively. The DGP specifically asked the SPs to pay special attention to the functioning to the marine police stations in their districts and try to strengthen it by means of manpower and other ways.
Wednesday’s meeting assumes significance as a meeting on “National Committee on strengthening Maritime & Coastal Security threat from the sea” will be held Thursday in which Cabinet Secretary of India will review the marine security activities through video-conference.
The DGP reviewed extensively the performance of 18 marine police stations located in seven coastal districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Ganjam and Berhampur through video conferencing.
