DGP fiat on cracker bursting

Cuttack: Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma has directed all district superintendents of police (SPs) to ensure strict implementation of the Supreme Court ruling on cracker bursting during the upcoming Diwali celebrations.

“We are advising people to opt for community cracker bursting during the Diwali. A firecracker show at an open place by the whole community would minimise the mishap risk,” said the DGP while addressing a presser at the state police headquarters here Friday.

According to Sharma, police officers have been told to raid all illegal cracker manufacturing units and keep tabs on purchase of the same through online. “The SC has allowed people to burst green or less polluting crackers between 8pm and 10pm during Diwali. Police would take stern action against the violators. No one would be allowed to produce and sell banned crackers,” said the DGP.

Sharma has directed SPs to take steps to prevent people from exploding crackers in sensitive areas. “The state police in association with media would soon launch an awareness campaign on the issue,” he said.
