Bhubaneswar : The Director General of Police, RP Sharma Saturday flagged off a campaign by a city-based non-government organization to bring awareness among people on various road safety measures. A programme was held in the regard at Jayadev Bhawan Saturday.
All the speakers who addressed the gathering stressed on the urgent need to bring massive awareness among the people about the danger of road accidents that has turned into an epidemic in the state. Sharma said the number of road fatalities have been increasing in the state despite all the efforts of the state government. He emphasized on the participation of the common man to rein in the menace.
The Commissioner of Police Satyajit Mohanty along with several other dignitaries participated in the inauguration event.
The activists of the NGO, Forum for Smart Citizens, and students of Bharat Scouts and guides performed various one-hour-long road safety awareness programmes at major places like Budhha Jayanti Park, IMFA Park, Biju Patnaik Park, Indira Gandhi Park.
They will also cover different schools and educational institutions in Bhubaneswar and the surrounding areas during the campaign.
