DGP lands in Malkangiri to review anti-Naxal operation

Malkangiri: A day after five Maoists, including two women cadres, were killed in an exchange of fire with security personnel inside a reserve forest near Sanyasiguda forest under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri, DGP RP Sharma visited the district to review the anti-Naxal operation Tuesday.

The DGP was accompanied by ADG (Operations) RP Koche, Special Intelligence Wing IG Ghanshyam Upadhyay and SOG Commandant Anirudh Singh at the Malkangiri Police Headquarters where the SOG and DVF jawans were commended for their remarkable feat.

The meeting with the jawans was followed by closed-door meeting at the district headquarters where police chalked out a blue print to wipe out the rebels and free the insurgent-infested districts, officials said.

Among other officials, Malkangiri SP Jagamohan Meena, Koraput DIG Ashish Singh and Koraput SP Kanvar Singh were present in the meeting.

The DGP echoed his earlier statement saying that the encounter was the most remarkable achievement of the state police till now. In the operation, five Maoists of the Kalimela Dalam were executed.

The police identified three of the five Maoists killed in the encounter. Unga Sodhi alias Kirti, ACM cadre, Mase Madhi alias Sunni and Seema Kendruka alias Rupi alias Sushila of the Kalimela Dalam. While Kirti and Sunni were residents of Rajulkonda under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri, Sushila was a native of Balipatna in Narayanapatna area of Koraput district.

The police have also recovered 2 SLRs, 1 Insas, a 303 rifle and 179 rounds of ammunition.

“Anti-Naxal operations will be intensified in coming days and more developmental activities will be undertaken in the ‘Swabhiman Anchal’ in Malkangiri district”, Sharma added.
