Koraput/Malkangiri: DGP Sunil Kumar Bansal said Friday that helicopters and drones will be used to ensure peaceful elections in Swabhiman Anchal of Malkangiri district.
It should be stated here that in the last 10 years, elections could not be held in the Swabhiman Anchal, due to Maoist menace.
Now, people are eager to exercise their franchise provided elaborate security arrangements are in place.
During his visit to Koraput and Malkangiri districts, Bansal took stock of the administration’s preparations for the upcoming panchayat elections and also held discussions with police officials chalking out strategies to counter the left-wing extremism (LWE) menace in both the districts.
The DGP along with Special DG SAP, Director Intelligence and IG BSF, held a meeting in Koraput in which senior police officers of Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur and DIG (South Western Range) were present.
Discussion was also held on maintaining peaceful atmosphere during the polls amidst border disputes between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha over the Kotia region. After the meeting, the DGP left for Malkangiri.
In Malkangiri, Bansal visited Hantalguda camp of BSF in Swabhiman Anchal and also interacted with the villagers and discussed developmental issues.
Subsequently, he held another review meeting over poll preparations and the strategy against the Maoists in the district.
