Dharmasala police IIC rendered critical in attack by accused kin

Dharmasala: Dharmasala police station IIC Umakant Nayak sustained critical injuries in an attack by the kin of an accused while conducting a raid at their house in Odang village under the police limits to arrest a person.

Acting on the direction of the IIC, Dharmasala ASI Usharani Jena and a constable on the basis of a search warrant granted by the SDJM court had gone to the house of Nityananda Mallick in Odanga village under Barabati panchayat to arrest his grandson.

However, Nitynanda did not allowed them to enter their house and misbehaved with the woman ASI and the constable along with his family members.  The IIC accompanied by ASI Niranjan Behura rushed to the spot after Jena informed him about the matter.

The IIC was talking to them about the search warrant when Nityananda attacked his head with an iron bar and rendered him critical.
the IIC and his staff however, overpowered Nityananda and brought him to the police station along with his two sons Mohan and Haladhar Mallick. Later, the IIC was admitted to the Dharmasala community health centre where the doctors performed 14 stiches on his head before sending him to Cuttack for scanning. On being informed, Jajpur Road SDPO Kedarnath Sahu started a probe into the matter.
