Basudevpur/Bhandaripokhari: Local people and members of various organizations started dharnas at block offices in Basudevpur and Bhandaripokhari of Bhadrak Thursday, pressing the demand for a government medical college in the district. Lawyers and BHP activists sat in dharnas and shouted for immediate step for the medical college.
Similarly, students of Bhandaripokhari Junior College, some intellectuals and members of Sangrami Sena staged a sit-in near the block for two hours. Several outfits have been carrying out a signature campaign and running an awareness vehicle to collect signatures of people from various parts of the district. Another outfit Biju Smruti Zilla Committee launched a padyatra Wednesday.
The Biju Smruti Zilla Committee has decided to take up the issue with people at block and even village levels.
Over 30 outfits, including Rotary Club, Sahid Bhagat Sena, Nagarika Samaj, UD Group, Gopabandhu Foundation, Tyagbhumi Sammelan, Netaji Subash Bahini, Tihidi Yuba Manch, Yuba Bahini, Biju Smruti Committee, Rotary Club, Jagrat Sena and Utsarga have already taken up the issue.
