Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths Tuesday caught red-handed the sub-inspector (SI) of Dhauli police station, Pradeep Mahalla, while he was accepting bribe.
According to sources, Mahalla had demanded Rs 50,000 bribe from Chittaranjan Pani to settle a civil dispute with the opposite party amicably.
Pani requested Mahalla to reduce the bribe amount and paid Rs 20,000 a few days ago. However, Mahalla insisted on another Rs 30,000 from Pani. Finding no other option, Pani Monday approached the vigilance cell to get him caught. Mahalla had also allegedly told Pani that everyone, including the IIC, would have a pie in the bribe amount given by him.
The vigilance sleuths laid a trap and accordingly Pani called Mahalla to a place near Dhauli police station to receive the bribe where they arrested the SI. A case (3/19) under Section 7 of PC Act was registered against Mahalla who was produced in the court.
Notably, the inspector in-charge of Jatni police station, Sanjeeb Mohanty, was caught red-handed by vigilance officers while he was taking bribe from a person in the police station September 3, 2018.
