Dhenkanal: In a major breakthrough, acting on a tip-off, officials of the Dhenkanal forest department conducted a raid Monday and arrested three persons involved in smuggling of medicinal plants and herbs to West Bengal. The identities of the accused have not been disclosed by the police.
Officials said that they got information from reliable sources that some persons were involved in the smuggling of medicinal herbs and plants from Muktapashi Forest section of the Western Range of Kamakshanagar in Dhenkanal district. Based on the information forest officials conducted a raid and intercepted a mini-truck loaded with 24 sacks near Basoi of the district.
During the search officials found the sacks were filled with medicinal herbs the value of which was more than a lakh. The vehicle was also seized. Forest officials said the accused will be forwarded to court after conducting COVID-19 test.
