DHH tense over patient’s death

Balasore: A day after the collector investigated a case of bribery at the district headquarters hospital, a case of medical negligence came to the fore Sunday.

An elderly patient was allegedly given a wrong injection which claimed his life. Tension ran high on the hospital premises Sunday over the incident. The deceased was identified as Biswanath Satpathy, 65.

According to reports, Satpathy was admitted to the surgery ward Friday noon. After treatment for two days, his condition had improved.

He was being administered saline drips Sunday. His son Debasish, son-in-law Sudhansu Pati and daughter Debasmita were near him.

At 3.30 pm, he complained of pain in his chest. His family members intimated the matter to the nurse and doctors on duty.

A nurse on duty gave an injection, flowing which Satpathy died.

Family members created ruckus in the hospital, alleging that the patient died due to the wrong injection administered by the nurse.

They allegedly abused the nurses and a doctor on the grounds of ‘medical negligence’.

Police from the outpost rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the agitated people.

Family members took the body without conducting post-mortem.

However, no complaint was lodged with the police, said ASI Bijay Kumar Nayak.
