Gopalpur: As many as 300 persons have so far been affected after diarrhea broke out in Chikarada village under the Rangeilunda block of Ganjam district Sunday.
Panic gripped the residents after dozens of villagers fell victim to the disease and had to be hospitalized.
According to a source, two teams of doctors have reached the village and are treating the patients. ORS and bleaching power is being distributed to the villagers. As of Wednesday, about 200 people have recovered and another 100 are still undergoing treatment.
Rangeilunda block development officer Kumar Nagabhusan said the situation is under control now even though quite a few people fell victim to the disease Tuesday.
Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi, Ganjam CDMO Bijay Kumar Panigrahi, RWSS works engineer Pratap Kumar Mohapatra, Rangeilunda BDO Nagabhusan and SDPO Jyostna Padhi reached the spot to inquire about the health condition of the patients.
They suspect the polluted water of a nearby tube well to have caused the disease. The water of this tube well has been sent for testing, a member of the visiting delegation said.
