Diarrhea outbreak in Balasore village kills two, affects 30

Sajnagarh:  At least 30 people have been affected and two have lost their lives to diarrhea in Baigania village under Oupada block of Balasore district. The disease has triggered panic among the people.

The villagers complained the waterborne disease has been spreading over a month in the area. They further rued that the number of patients are increasing every day.

A large number of patients are under medical care across several hospitals in the region. While some of the patients have been admitted to the district headquarter hospital (DHH), many others are being treated at Ayodhya, Nilgiri and Balasore based hospitals.

Consumption of wild mushrooms and usage of contaminated water from village pond and tube well are said to be the reason behind the break out the disease in the area.

The administration has deployed a mobile health unit led by AYUSH doctor Shridhar Behera and pharmacist Dibakar Mohapatra in the village. They are providing medicines to the patients and creating awareness programs to minimise the spread of the disease.
