Lanjigarh: Two people died while three others were in critical condition after suffering from diarrhoea over the last three days in this block of Kalahandi district.

The deceased were identified as Ajaralu Dora (45), wife of Anta Dora, and his son Labanu Dora (15) of Purunapani village under Champadeipur panchayat.

Among three others who were undergoing treatment was Anta’s daughter Lochhana Dora.

The two others who were admitted to the hospitals were Dada Dora and Pedababu Dora of the same area and are in critical condition, said health worker Anjali Sahoo.

According to reports, Ajaralu suffered from the waterborne disease and died at home Wednesday. Her son and daughter also suffered the same day. The family contacted an ambulance but it didn’t turn up. As Laibanu’s condition turned critical, a villager shifted him on a bike to the hospital. However, the doctors pronounced Laibanu dead on arrival. After Laibanu’s death, Lochhana was taken to the hospital where she has been undergoing treatment.

When contacted, Dr Malaya Kumar Tripathy, chief medical officer of Biswanathpur CHC, said the patients died due to other reasons but not diarrhoea.

But the father of the deceased claimed his children died after suffering from diarrhoea.

Many people died last year due to the disease and many turned critical in Lanjigarh area. The disease can spread its tentacle this year also unless the health department takes preventive measures.
