Diarrhoea scare: Patient carried on cot in Daringbadi

Daringbadi/Brahmanigaon: Diarrhoea is spreading like wildfire at Rambeli in Katingia area of Durgam panchayat under Daringbadi block in Kandhamal district over the past few days.

Although many people are suffering from the disease, a team of doctors is yet to visit the area and take stock of the situation, locals alleged.

As the village is situated in a remote area, the patients have to rely on ayurvedic herbs and sorcery for medication. In this scenario, Junior Mallick, wife of Ajay Mallick of the village, on whom a ‘Puja’ was performed to cure her of diarrheoa became critical staying deprived of proper treatment.

There is no motorable road in the area, thus she was carried on a cot and ferried by her family members to Minjapanka village, from where she was taken to Adaba health centre in Gajapati district in an auto-rickshaw.

Owing to the lack of proper road connectivity in the area, villagers have to rely on ayurvedic remedies like roots and herbs sourced from nearby jungle, alleged locals.

“If a permanent road was constructed in the region, no patient would have been ferried on cot,” said Kamadev Mallick, a local resident.

“There is no drinking water facility in the village; we have to depend upon a nearby creek, from where we collect contaminated water for drinking and other purposes as a result of which we suffer from numerous diseases and diarrhea now, is rampant,” Kamadev added.

Meanwhile, villagers have urged the district administration to resolve their transportation and drinking water crisis at the earliest.
