Differently-abled donates blood, saves pregnant woman

Nabarangpur: A disabled man, Debanand Lamta, 28, turned saviour for a pregnant woman, who was suffering from shortage of haemoglobin in Nabarangpur district.

Lamta donated his blood for the pregnant woman and helped her survive.

Phula Majhi, the wife of Jadab Bhatra, a resident of Sakarguda village, was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital by ASHA workers. Doctors at DHH tested the woman’s blood and found that she was suffering from acute haemoglobin deficiency.

The doctor asked the pregnant woman’s family to arrange B Positive blood immediately as it was not available at DHH. But the patient’s kin could not find a donor and panicked.

Meanwhile, a security guard informed Debanand about this. Hearing the matter, Debanand rushed to the DHH, donated a unit of B Positive blood and saved the patient’s life.

Debanand who hails from Hitaguda in Nabarangpur block, runs a shop. Everything is possible if one has the will to help others, he said later.
