Padmapur: The distance boards put by Works Department on Padmapur-Birasa stretch show incorrect information inconveniencing commuters, local residents have said.
The 18 kilometres long stretch, which is under construction, has several such boards along the road that have replaced the good old milestones.
A board at Hatasia square of Jagannathprasad village shows Birasa to be 10 kilometres away. After travelling four kilometres along this route, another board at Balimeda square also suggests Birasa to be 10 kilometres away.
Confusion does not end here. The board at Balimeda also indicates Basudevpur is four kilometres away and Charbatia 12 kilometres away.
Local residents say all the information displayed on the boards are false and causing trouble to those who are first time visitors to this locality. According to them, Birasa, Basudevpur and Charbatia are six kilometres, 18 kilometres and two kilometres away from Balimeda square, respectively.
“The predicament of a person having little knowledge about the locality can well be imagined. If one has to go Basudevpur from Balimeda square and he follows these boards, after travelling four kilometres he is sure to reach somewhere else other than his destination,” said a villager at Balimeda.
Balimeda sarpanch Prafulla Kumar Palita, samiti member Sasmita Pattanayak and local residents have urged the Works Department to take steps to rectify the information on these boards.
