Kendrapara: With the Model Code of Conduct for the 2019 general elections coming into force from 5 pm Sunday, allegations regarding violations of the code have come from the Rajnagar Assembly seat to the Collector of Kendrapara, who is also the District Election Officer.
The Collector directed the BDO of Rajnagar to hold an inquiry and to submit a detailed report.
Collector Dasarathi Satapathy said he found a media report Monday that the Congress MLA of Rajnagar, Anshuman Mohanty, laid the foundation stone for a check dam of the irrigation department Sunday evening at Keruapala and the foundation stone of Dolasahi Hatapadia road concretisation in Keruapala GP.
This violates the Model Code of Conduct that was enforced Sunday by the Election Commission of India.
The BJD’s Rajnagar block president, Ashok Kumar Pratihari, raised the matter with the District Election Officer.
Similarly, Jayanta Behera, of Kandara GP in Rajnagar, informed the District Election Officer through WhatsApp that a couple of foundation stones under ‘Ama Gaon Ama Bikas Yojana’ were laid Monday violating the code.
The foundation stones of the Yuba Bikash Kendra at Hansua costing Rs 2 lakh and that of a bathing ghat at Baunsakani Pond in Kandira GP were laid Monday.
Although the foundation stones of both the projects were laid by the Rajnagar Panchayat Samiti it was written on the foundation stones that they were laid March 1 and 5 respectively, alleged Jayanta.
“I have directed the BDO of Rajnagar to hold a thorough inquiry into the alleged violation of the code, and to submit a detailed report,” said Satapathy.
He said the administration would not spare anyone who violates the Model Code of Conduct.
