Sambalpur: Authorities at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla here Monday observed the 21st Day ritual of the infant girl who was rescued from an abandoned borewell at Laripali village under Rengali block in Sambalpur district December 12, last year. Following her rescue, the baby girl was admitted to the special newborn care unit (SNCU) at the hospital where she recovered after treatment. Doctors, nurses, and other staff at the hospital attended the celebrations at the SNCU which was decked up with flowers and balloons.
Later, they named the girl as ‘Bijayini’ on the 21st day of her birth. The event was marked by the cutting of cake and the distribution of sweets. The baby girl is currently undergoing treatment in SNCU of VIMSAR as she is underweight. She will be discharged after gaining two kilogram. The newborn had allegedly been thrown into an abandoned borewell at Laripalli village. After a six-hour-long operation by the fire service personnel, ODRAF and NDRF, she was rescued alive. She was immediately admitted to VIMSAR for treatment. Doctors and staff expressed happiness by celebrating the event at the hospital.
All the staff also extended best wishes to the infant and offered prayers for her wellbeing. VIMSAR assistant professor of Medicine Shankar Ramchandani shared a picture on his X handle holding the infant in his lap. However, the identity of the parents of the baby girl is yet to be established as police continued their investigation.
