Doctor aspirant drowns while saving friend

Bhubaneswar: A recently passed Plus II student aspiring to study medicine met with a watery grave here Wednesday after he jumped into a river to save his friend from drowning. While Amlan Tripathy successfully saved his friend’s life, he himself was fatally pulled by the currents in the river.

Amlan was a resident of Radhika Tower near Ravi Talkies. He went out with two friends to have some fun and take a bath in Kuakhai river. The three had a good time, moving around and taking selfies in a forest nearby the river before they went to the river to take bath.

On among them went into the water to take a selfie. He got pulled in by the currents. Seeing him in danger, Amlan jumped into the water and managed to save the youth with much difficulty. He pushed his friend to the shore, but could not save himself. He was washed away by the swollen river.

The two friends alerted the locals for help. A fire brigade team rushed in for rescue operation. The body was recovered from the river after a search lasting three hours. The incident spread a pall of gloom in the area. Onlookers hailed the good deed of Amlan, though he lost his life. Police sent the body for post-mortem.
