Doctor duo turns good samaritans

Sambalpur: A doctor couple here has opened a free clinic for patients at Sarlakani in this town, locals informed. Drs Geetanjali and Sanjiv Mishra are working at the VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla in this district. To attend to the needs of the poor, they have opened a free clinic near their residence only and have named it ‘Arogya’. They see patients from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm Monday to Saturday. Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari recently inaugurated the clinic.

Speaking to this correspondent, Sanjiv said that he always dreamt of opening a ‘free’ clinic for the needy. “The clinic is for people living in slums, people who work as labourers and daily wagers and cannot afford proper treatment,” Sanjiv said. “A lot of time is consumed when a patient visits a hospital. The patient has to run from one department to another for treatment. The clinic on the other hand will give them the chance of getting free treatment,” Sanjiv added. Sanjiv informed that not only he and his wife treat patients free of cost, but also help them to find shops from where they can buy medicines at the cheapest price. “After my official duty is over, I attend to patients in the clinic,” Sanjiv said.
