Malkangiri: A doctor and an ambulance driver in Malkangiri district set an example by carrying a patient on sling for 5 kilometres to make the latter board an ambulance.
According to villagers, a 12-year-old boy Komulu Kirasani of Nuaguda village under Badadural panchayat of Khairaput block in Malkangiri district was suffering from an unidentified disease that had led to a swollen stomach.
His family members called up Arogya plus for admitting him to a nearby hospital. However, the ambulance was not able to reach the village owing to lack of a motorable road.
Dr. Shakti Prasad Mishra, who works with Tagore society Arogya Plus along the ambulance driver carried the boy in a sling for five kilometres to Belabadi by crossing a canal to carry the boy near the ambulance.
The boy was rushed to the Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment. Mishra has earned honor from all quarters for the commendable action.
