Bhubaneswar, August 17: Rakhi is just a few days to go and roadside rakhi stall owners are decking up the shelves with varieties of cartoon wristbands for the tiny tots along with other fancy rachis and items.
Stall owners selling rakhis claim big and colourful rakhis are no longer in demand and cartoon heroes on wristbands seem to be attracting the young flock to the stalls. Rakhis modelled on Lord Hanuman, Doraemon, Motu and Patlu and others are popular among children.
“Lord Hanuman is stealing the hearts of youngsters this season. Lord Hanuman rakhis have sold well. We brought 200 packets which flew off the shelves in no time. Now we have placed fresh orders with an eye on demand. The price of big rakhis is Rs 35 and the small ones a Rs 25,” said Monoj Rath, a shopkeeper at Indradhanu Market, Nayapalli.
Motu and Patlu, Spiderman, Chota Bheem rakhis are also popular. Owner of Sai Season Centre at Rasulgarh B Chhaotray said, “Many girls are coming to purchase Chota Bheem rakhis for their little brothers. Motu and Patul are also popular. The price of the rakhis is between `20 and `60. I hope we will earn a little profit this year.”
Sugandha Panigrahi, a resident of Bomikhal purchased two rakhis – one Spiderman and the other Ben 10 – for her two little brothers. “My two lovely brothers love to watch Spiderman and Ben 10 so I wanted to tie these rakhis on their wrists. It will be a surprise for them,” said Sugandha.
Resident of Unit IX Subhasini Khadenga bought a rakhi as per her 14-year-old daughter’s demand. “My daughter Jayshree is going to tie the rakhi on her little brother’s wrist and she has asked me to get a Doraemon rakhi for her,” said Khadenga.
