Down memory lane with Rajesh Khanna

Bhubaneswar:  Saaz Aur Awaaz hosted a musical nite to commemorate the sixth death anniversary of evergreen actor of Hindi cinema Rajesh Khanna at Soochana Bhawan, Tuesday.

The programme titled Akele hain chale aao showcased the soulful songs of young and promising singers Dev Das, Tushar, Sidhant, Suraj, Debi, Bibek, Abhijeet, Biswasmruti, Ritika, Jansmie, Jyoti, Gulshan and Sanchita. The singers presented the hit numbers from the movies of the romantic actor.

The event opened with one of his popular songs Akele hain chale aao from movie Raaj presented by Sidhant, followed by Jis gali main tera ghar sang by Dev. Tushar recited Hume tum se pyar kitna and ek ajnabee hasina sa.

Biswasmruti and Ritka regaled the audience with a duet Sun champa sun tara from the movie Apna Desh, while Abhijeet and Jyoti presented Gore rang pe na from the movie Roti.

Chup gaye sare nazare, one of the best songs of Rajesh Khanna from the movie Do Raaste, was sung by Gulshan and Jasmine at the event. The next performance was presented by Jyoti and Debi who sang Karwate badalte rahe from the movie Aap Ki Kasam, followed by Baghon main bahar hai from the movie Aradhana presented by Sanchita and Sidhant.

The concluding number Kiska mehal hai kis ka yeh ghar was sung by Disha and Suraj from the movie Prem Nagar.

Talking to Orissa Post Saaz Aur Awaaz organiser Dev Das said the Hindi film industry coined the world ‘superstar’ for Rajesh Khanna. It was his powerful acting and charisma that made him the first superstar of the country. The songs associated with Rajesh Khanna still echo in the hearts of all music lovers in the country, he added, “that is why we wanted to pay tribute to the superstar through this programme.’’

Music director and singer Laxmikant Palit was also present on the occasion.
