Dreaded criminal held in city

Bhubaneswar: A special squad of Commissionerate Police Tuesday arrested a dreaded criminal who is reportedly involved in more than a dozen incidents of snatching in the city and its outskirts. The accused, identified as Ayushman Tripathy, 24, is a resident of Niladri Nagar in Jagamara under the Khandagiri police station limits.

According to sources, the special squad of Commissionerate Police has been keeping track of Tripathy, a habitual offender, for the past several days. However, Tripathy managed to give the sleuths a slip several times. However, the squad in collaboration with Laxmisagar Police arrested him late Monday night.

The police seized two gold chains weighing 16 grams and one stolen monitor cycle. Two cases were pending against him (275/18 and 249/18) at Laxmisagar police station. He was earlier forwarded to the court by the Capital Police on charges of snatching. He was involved in another case of loot at Nayapalli Police station.

According to sources, Tripathy and four of his accomplices were involved in a number of loot and theft incidents in the city for the past many years. Police will soon seek remand for the accused for their interrogation, they added.
