Dreaded gangster held from Cuttack

The arrested gangster Papa Panda at the press meet called by Balasore SP

Balasore: Police arrested dreaded gangster Chinmaya Panda alias Papa Panda (40) of Balasore from Cuttack Saturday.

He had been unleashing a reign of terror in Balasore town and other areas.

A total of 20 cases of murder, robbery, extortion and murder bids have been pending in various police stations in his name.

Panda had been giving slips to police in many cases. A special team under supervision of SP B Jugal Kishore Kumar arrested Papa Panda late Saturday night from Cuttack.

The SP held a press meet about the arrest at the office Sunday afternoon.

Papa, a native of Shovrampur area under Sahadevkhunta police limits, had formed several gangs and been committing crimes in Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal. In Balasore, he had a gang of 40 members. The gang had been extorting money from traders, contractors and industrialists.

He was accused in two murder cases. He was using multiple cell phones and getting crimes done in Balasore even though he had been staying in West Bengal and sometimes in Jharkhand. 11 cell phones were seized from him, the SP said.

He was produced in court while police will take him in remand and elicit info about his crime world.
