Mumbai: Dreaded gangster Ravi Pujari, a former associate of Chhota Rajan, has been arrested in Senegal, according to information received here Friday. Earlier, it has been stated that he had been hiding in Australia from where he shifted base to a city in Senegal sometime around in 2015. Sources said that the government will soon launch a process to extradite the gangster to India where he is wanted for several cases including murder.
Pujari used to operate in Mumbai with Rajan. However, the two fell out in 2001 and Pujari formed his own gang. Rajan, incidentally is now serving a life sentence.
Pujari, who is fluent both in English and Kannada shifter base to Bangalore sometime around 2007 when a crackdown by the Anti-Extortion Cell of Mumbai Police left most of his associates dead or arrested. After that he sought safety in different countries including Nepal and Thailand.
Last year, JNU student leader Umar Khalid and Dalit leader and Gujarat legislator Jignesh Mewani had allegedly received death threats from Pujari. He is also known to have made extortion calls to several actors of the Mumbai film industry. With his arrest, Mumbai Police will certainly breathe a sigh of relief.
