Baripada: As part of a state-wide campaign ahead of the roll out of the ambitious ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative October 2, Odisha Police have turned up the heat on middlemen exploiting poor and vulnerable patients in several hospitals as well as those who come to the regional transport offices (RTO) to acquire various documents.
The police Thursday arrested three middlemen from the state-run in Baripada – Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College (PRMMC) and one at the RTO at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district.
In the first incident, at PRMMC medical college, the three nabbed wereidentified as Ajay Kumar Mahanta, Mohammad Sameer and Binod Mishra. They were influencing patients and their kin and diverting them to private clinics for treatment. They were also demanding money for providing medicines.
In another incident, one person was arrested from the RTO office for taking money while helping people to get the documents required for their vehicles. The accused has been identified as Sushant Kumar Mohanta.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while addressing Wednesday evening the SPs and Chief District Medical Officers (CDMO) had instructed the police to get rid of middlemen from government hospitals and offices.
