Driver burnt alive as truck catches fire after accident in Khurda

Khurda:  In a tragic incident Saturday at about 7am, a truck driver was charred to death after the vehicle which he was driving caught fire following a collision with another stationary truck on national highway (NH-16) near Harikunda Baradi Chhak under Nachuni police limits in Khurda district, a report said.

According to reports, the truck was en route to Bhubaneswar from Berhampur in Ganjam district, when it rammed into another truck from behind near Harikunda Baradi Chhak early this morning. Fire broke out in the engine portion of the truck after collision and its driver was burnt alive inside the vehicle.

A helper who also suffered burn injuries in the mishap has been admitted to Balugaon hospital. However, the identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained. Commuters were left in a state of panic as they were unable to control the inferno.

On being informed, a firefighting team rushed to the spot and doused the flames. The team recovered the body from truck. Front portion of the vehicle has been completely gutted. Balugaon SDPO Suresh Das and IICs from Balugaon and Banapur have begun a probe into the matter.
