Digapahandi/Patapur: The driver of a turmeric-laden truck died after the vehicle fell off Taptapani Ghati near Jakarapalli village in Ganjam district early Sunday morning. The deceased was identified as Suresh Guru, a resident of Sarapada village near Itamati in Nayagarh district.
According to sources, the truck (OD 02-B-9880) was carrying the consignment of turmeric from Mohana in Gajapati district to Berhampur in Ganjam. The driver lost control of the wheels when the vehicle was crossing the Ghati area. As a result, the truck skidded off the road and fell. The driver was crushed under the truck and died on the spot.
On being informed, a fire brigade unit from Sanakhemundi rushed to the spot and recovered the body from under the mangled vehicle with the help of gas cutters. Later, the truck was lifted onto the road with the help of an earthmover. According to sources, Patapur police reached the spot, seized the body and sent it to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur for post-mortem. Police seized the vehicle and launched an investigation after registering a case.
