Driver, supervisor electrocuted, helper critically injured as truck hits transformer in Ganjam

Berhampur: Two men were electrocuted after a truck hit an electric transformer at Anantraypur village under Sunapur police limits in Ganjam district Saturday night.

The deceased have been identified as Pankhil Nathan Subramanyam – the driver of the truck and Madham Kumar Muthugunjan – a supervisor. The helper of the truck has also suffered injuries in the incident.

According to a source, the trio from Tamil Nadu had reached Anantaraypur village transporting fish. Subramanyam was reversing the truck for easy loading of fish. The helper was helping him with reversing.

Owing to darkness, the driver could not see the transformer and the rear end of the truck hit the transformer. The helper was the first one to get electrocuted and fell to the ground. Hearing his cries, Subramanyam and Muthugunjan, who were in the cabin, tried to come out but were electrocuted as soon as they touched the doorknob.

Local people immediately informed the electricity department and the police. Later, police reached the spot and with the help of local people, they rescued the trio and rushed them to MKCG Medical College and Hospital.  However, the driver and the supervisor could not be saved. The doctors pronounced them received dead. The critically injured helper, who is yet to be identified, is undergoing treatment at MKCG.
