Bhubaneswar: If you are driving under the influence of alcohol in Odisha, then beware. Chances are that your driving license will be cancelled if you are caught by the police. In a fresh notification the State Transport Authority (STA) has warned that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence and those caught will be punished including cancellation of licenses.
The STA issued this directive Thursday evening in its official Twitter handle. It said that under the new MV-ACT, 2019 which will be implemented in August itself drunk drivers will have their licenses for three months.

Besides this, strict action will be taken on the traffic rule offenders for mistakes like over-speeding, talking on the phone while driving, jumping red lights and overloading of trucks and other carrier vehicles.
The STA however, has given certain relaxations for people without driving licenses. They are being provided with driving licenses (DL) and Learning Licenses (LL) August 14 onwards. The service has resumed once more after being suspended for four months. Issuance of DL and LL had been suspended for four months due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
